１ サウロは、ステパノを殺すことに賛成していました。その日、エルサレムの教会に対して大迫害が起り、使徒以外の者は皆、ユダヤとサマリヤとの地方に散らされて行きました。
２ しかし、敬虔な人たちはステパノを葬り、彼のために、非常に悲しみました。
３ ところが、サウロは教会を荒し回っていましたが、家々に押し入って、男や女を引きずり出し、次々に獄に渡しました。
４ さて、このために散らされて行った人たちは、至るところに[1]御言を宣べ伝えながら、めぐり歩きました。
５ また、ピリポはサマリヤの町に下って行き、人々にキリストを宣べ伝えました。
６ そして、群衆はピリポの話を聞き、その行っていたしるしを見て、こぞって彼の語ることに耳を傾けました。
７ というのは、汚れた霊につかれた多くの人々からは、その霊が大声でわめきながら出て行くし、また、多くの中風をわずらっている者や、足のきかない者がいやされたからです。
８ それで、この町では人々が、大変喜んでいました。
９ さて、この町に以前からシモンという人がいました。自分をさも大物のように言いふらしながら、魔術を行ってサマリヤの人たちを驚かしていました。
１０ それで、小さい者から大きい者にいたるまで皆、彼について行き、「この人こそは『神の大いなる力』です」と言っていました。
１１ しかし、彼らがこの人に注目していたのは、彼がながい間その魔術で驚かしていたためででした。
１２ ところが、神の国とイエス・キリストの名について宣べ伝えるピリポを信じると、男も女も、バプテスマを受けました。
１３ また、シモン自身も信じて、バプテスマを受け、引きつづきピリポについて行きました。そして、諸々のしるしや奇跡が行われるのを見て、驚いていました。
１４ さて、エルサレムにいる使徒たちは、サマリヤの人々が、神の言を受け入れたと聞いて、ペテロとヨハネとを、彼らのところにつかわしました。
１５ ふたりは下って行って、みんなが聖霊を受けるようにと、彼らのために祈りました。
１６ それは、聖霊はまだだれにも下っていなかったからです。彼らはただ主イエスの名によってバプテスマを受けていただけだったからです。
１７ そこで、ふたりが手を彼らの上においたところ、[2]彼らはすべての者が聖霊を受けました。
１８ しかし、シモンは、使徒たちが手を置くことによって、御霊が人々に授けられたのを見て、金をさし出し、
１９ こう言いました、「わたしが手をおけばだれにでも聖霊が授けられるように、その力をわたしにも下さい」。
２０ そこで、ペテロが彼に言いました、「あなたの金は、あなたと一緒に、滅んでしまえ。神の賜物が、金で得られるなどと思っているからだ。
２１ あなたは、ほんの一部でもこの事にあずかることができない。あなたの心が神の前に正しくないからだ。
２２ だから、この邪悪さを悔い改めなさい。そして、神に祈りなさい。そうすればあるいはそんな思いを心にいだいたことが、ゆるされるかも知れない。
２３ あなたは、胆汁に毒されていて、不義のなわ目にしばられている。それが、わたしにわかっている」。
２４ シモンはこれを聞いて言いました、「仰せのような事が、[3]ひとつでもわたしの身に起らないように、どうぞ、わたしのために主に祈って下さい」。
２５ 使徒たちは力強くあかしをなし、また主の言を語った後、サマリヤ人の多くの村々に福音を宣べ伝えて、エルサレムに帰りました。
２６ さて、主の使がピリポにむかって言いました、「立ち上がって南の方角に行き、エルサレムからガザへ下る道に出なさい」（このガザは、今は荒れはてている）。
２７ そこで、彼は立って南の方向に[4]出かけました。すると、見よ、エチオピヤ人の女王カンダケの高官で、女王の財宝全部を管理していた宦官のエチオピヤ人が、礼拝のためエルサレムに上り、
２８ その帰途についていたところでした。彼は自分の馬車に乗って、預言者イザヤの書を読んでいました。
２９ 御霊がピリポに「進み寄って、あの馬車に並んで行きなさい」と言いました。
３０ そこでピリポが駆けて行くと、預言者イザヤの書を読んでいるその人の声が聞えたので、「あなたは、読んでいることが、おわかりですか」と尋ねました。
３１ 彼は「だれかが、手びきをしてくれなければ、どうしてわかりましょう」と答えました。そして、馬車に乗って一緒にすわるようにと、ピリポにすすめました。
３２ 彼が読んでいた聖書の箇所は、これででした、「彼は、ほふり場に引かれて行く羊のように、また、黙々として、毛を刈る者の前に立つ小羊のように、口を開かない。
３３ 彼は、いやしめられて、そのさばきも行われなかった。だれが、彼の[5]世代のことを語ることがでようか、彼の命が地上から取り去られているからには」。
３４ そこで、宦官はピリポに答えて言いました、「お尋ねしますが、預言者はだれについて言っているのですか。自分自身のことですか、それとも、ほかのだれかのことですか」。
３５ そこでピリポは口を開き、この聖句から説き起して、イエスのことを宣べ伝えました。
３６ 道を進んで行くうちに、水のある所にきたので、宦官が言いました、「ここに水があります。わたしがバプテスマを受けるのに、なんのさしつかえがありますか」。〔
３７ これに対して、ピリポは、「あなたがまごころから信じるなら、受けてさしつかえはありません」と言いました。すると、彼は「わたしは、イエス・キリストを神の子と信じます」と答えました。〕
３８ そこで車を[6]静かにとめさせ、ピリポと宦官と、ふたりとも、水の中に降りて行き、ピリポが宦官にバプテスマを授けました。
３９ しかし、彼らが水から上がると、主の霊がピリポを奪い去って行ったので、宦官はもう彼を見ることができませんでした。そこで宦官はよろこんで旅をつづけました。
４０ その後、ピリポはアゾトに姿をあらわしました。そして、すべての町々をめぐり歩き、いたるところで福音を宣べ伝えて、カイザリヤに着きました。

Saul Persecutes the Church
8 Now Saul was consenting to his death.
At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.
2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
3 As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.
Christ Is Preached in Samaria
4 Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.
5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.
6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.
8 And there was great joy in that city.
The Sorcerer’s Profession of Faith
9 But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great,
10 to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God.”
11 And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time.
12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.
13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.
The Sorcerer’s Sin
14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,
19 saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!
21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
23 For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”
24 Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”
25 So when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
Christ Is Preached to an Ethiopian
26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert.
27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship,
28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.
29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”
30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.
32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this:
“He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;
And as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
33 In His humiliation His justice was taken away,
And who will declare His generation?
For His life is taken from the earth.”

34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?”

36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?”
37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.”
And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.
39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.
40 But Philip was found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea.
